Shockwave is a highly effective and non-invasive therapy using state-of-the-art technology. The shockwave unit produces low energy acoustic pressure waves which are delivered via a handheld wand to a targeted area of the body producing a local tissue effect. Shockwave is approved by both Health Canada and the FDA.
Shockwave therapy promotes the body's natural healing abilities, reduces pain and restores function to injured and damaged tissues. Scientific evidence has shown Shockwave to be extremely effective with greatly reduced healing times as compared to surgery. Some of the conditions effectively treated with Shockwave are: plantar fasciitis, frozen shoulder, achilles tendonitis, tennis/golfers elbow, jumpers knee, chronic muscle strains, sprains, strains, tendonitis, and many more conditions.
On a cellular level, shockwave therapy stimulates cellular metabolism, increases blood flow, and accelerates healing. Shockwave stimulates regeneration of damaged tissues and breaks down scar tissue and calcification. The increased blood flow to the area promotes quick removal of cellular debris and rapid tissue healing.
Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is a treatment that utilizes specific wavelengths of light to interact with tissues of the body and is thought to help accelerate the healing process.
In short, the light energy absorbed into the patient’s tissue triggers biological changes at a cellular level to provide a temporary increase in local blood circulation; temporary relief of minor joint and muscle aches, pains, and stiffness; relaxation of muscles and relief of muscle spasm. The dose and frequency of treatment can be adjusted to produce the desired effect.
Prior to laser treatment, you will be provided with protective eyewear to wear during treatment. Treatment is applied to the affected area via an applicator wand (similar to an ultrasound head). Laser therapy is not painful, the area being treated may feel warm during treatment. Laser therapy is non-invasive, non-toxic and is easily applied. In addition, there are no known negative side effects.
Acupuncture is an ancient treatment art that originated in China over 5000 years ago. Today’s professional acupuncture methods are grounded in science and are used as treatment for a wide variety of conditions. Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine needles at specific points on the body, stimulating the release of natural pain relieving chemicals. Acupuncture may be used in treatment of pain associated with sciatica, headache, low back pain, neck pain, tendonitis, muscle tension, and a host of other conditions. There are over 2000 acupuncture points on the body that link 12 main and 8 secondary pathways. These pathways are called meridians and are believed to conduct energy between the skin and internal organs.
You should receive acupuncture from a licensed acupuncturist/medical practitioner. Acupuncture in a licensed setting is very safe, only single use,sterile needles are used. The needles are disposed of after use. Typically, about 3 to 15 needles are used during a treatment.
You may feel a mild prick when the needle is inserted. The needles are very fine and do not need to be inserted deeply to be effective. The needles may be warmed, twirled, or stimulated to enhance the treatment benefits. Acupuncture needles are usually left in for about 20 to 40 minutes. Most people find acupuncture to be a painless and positive experience.
Electrotherapy involves stimulating nerve fibers with small electrical currents which are delivered through pads adhered to the skin. The electrical stimulation can promote the release of endorphins (natural pain relieving chemicals) or block pain signals to the brain which may help to reduce acute or chronic pain. Electrotherapy may be combined with heat therapy, cold therapy, chiropractic manipulations or exercise to optimize the treatment benefit.
Electrotherapy is not painful. You should feel tingling (or "buzzing") during the treatment . There are several types of electrotherapy, which vary in frequency, waveform, and effect. These include transcutaneous electrical stimulation (TENS), percutaneous electrical stimulation (PENS), interferential current (IFC), and galvanic stimulation (GS) are common types of electrotherapy. Electrotherapy treatment should only be provided by a chiropractor, physiotherapist or other licensed health care professional.
Therapeutic ultrasound has been used since the 1940s. Therapeutic ultrasound uses sound waves to deliver deep heat to the treated tissues. Ultrasound is applied using an ultrasound probe head that is placed in direct contact with your skin via a transmission coupling gel. The treatments may help reduce stiffness, spasm, swelling, and pain, increase circulation, and promote healing. Ultrasound therapy may be used alone or in conjunction with stretching, therapeutic massage, heat, or chiropractic manipulation. Ultrasound therapy is a painless procedure, and many people find it relaxing.
Your chiropractor will only expose the area of skin that is to be treated. If required, you will be provided with a hospital gown. Conduction gel will be applied to the treatment area. The ultrasound conduction wand will be placed on your skin and moved in a circular motion to deliver the ultrasound treatment.
Following ultrasound, your chiropractor may help you stretch your joints, or provide instructions for stretches or exercises to do at home.
